Western Queensland is proving to be not only the home of many of Australia’s most significant dinosaur discoveries, but also the locale of several fascinating meteoritic events. It is the stuff of fair dinkum, Aussie bush yarns – only there is no fiction in these tales. The recollections of Winton residents painted a vivid picture as they recounted the evening of March 31, 2004, when what is believed to have been a meteor streaked across the northern and central western skies of Queensland, providing a privileged few with a brief but otherwise spectacular celestial display.
