Description

Sarcopterygian Mandageria fairfaxi a predatory fish from the Late Devonian period lived approximately 370 million years ago. Growing up to two metres in length, Mandageria had a torpedo-shaped body and a broad caudal fin, enabling rapid bursts of speed similar to modern pike, although they are not directly related. This fearsome ambush predator is also the state fossil of New South Wales.

This anatomically accurate 1:8 scale model, crafted by paleoartist Bruce Currie in consultation with Dr Alex Ritchie, captures the essence of Mandageria fairfaxi with remarkable detail.
