Description

Australovenator wintonensis is a medium-sized carnivorous dinosaur from the Cretaceous Period. The fossils from this ferocious carnosaur were discovered in the deposits of a 95-million-year-old billabong by the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum and nicknamed Banjo.

Remarkably, Banjo was not alone! The remains of this theropod were found alongside Diamantinasaurus matildae, a giant sauropod dinosaur nicknamed Matilda. Banjo is the most complete theropod skeleton found in Australia. Unlike most theropods Banjo had powerful arms with massive hands. Two of the three hand claws supported 30cm talons used for capturing prey. Banjo would have been approximately two metres tall and five metres long.

This 1:24 scientifically-accurate model is based on the holotype fossils of Australovenator, housed at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum in Winton, Queensland.
